Joseph Thachil brings nearly four decades of experience spanning academics, economic research, business organisations, journalism, publishing and media management.
He began his career as a lecturer in economics, teaching monetary economics, statistics and price theory at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He subsequently worked as a research scholar at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) before joining FICCI.
During more than two decades with FICCI, Joseph worked in several areas, including agriculture and rural development, family planning, joint business councils and transport. His final assignment at FICCI was as Media Advisor, a position he held for 14 years.
He has also been associated with several leading business organisations and chambers, including the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Calcutta; Southern India Chamber of Commerce; Confederation of Indian Textile Mills (CITI); PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI); and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), serving as an advisor or undertaking specific projects.
Joseph continues to work with organisations including the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, as well as various corporations in consultancy and advisory roles.
An experienced editor, publisher and writer, he edits several online and offline magazines and periodicals and is a regular blogger. He has also authored publications, including business histories of FICCI, PHD Chamber and CITI.
Joseph holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Calicut University, where he was a rank holder, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Delhi University.
